FIXED: Samsung Can’t Have More Than 99 Tabs Open

I understood that most Samsung users, especially those using the S series (i.e., s10, s9, etc.), often encounter the “can’t have more than 99 Tabs Open” issue on their browsers.

I also learned that this trouble might come up even when you don’t have many Tabs Open or even after you’ve closed all Open browsing Tabs.

Although, the limitation might differ from browser to browser. For instance, the Samsung browser on older models of Samsung devices only allows you to open 50 active tabs; meanwhile, chrome allows up to 99 Tabs.

But here’s the catch on fixing the “Samsung can’t have more than 99 Tabs open”, simply close all the open or unnecessary tabs and clear the browser's cache.

Clearing the browser's cache will erase any cached data and fetch a more current version of the browser you're working with.

You don’t have to be a tech enthusiast to fix this; all you need is the right guide, which we’ll show you in this article.

NOTE: We’ll only show how to resolve this problem on chrome and Samsung browsers but you can replicate the settings on other browsers as they’re basically configured the same way.

How do I close 99 tabs on my Samsung Browser?

Samsung browser made a provision for you to instantly delete all active tabs if you don’t want to go through the stress of manual closure.

Here's how to close the active 99 tabs on your Samsung phone.

  1. Open the Samsung browser app. You can do this from the homepage icons or by going to Settings> Apps and opening Samsung Browser.
  2. Tap on numbered square box to reveal all 99 open tabs. While this can vary from the version of the Samsung browser installed on your device, as of March 2023, the tab icon is close to the bookmarks option.
  3. Close all open tabs. You can either manually close all open tabs by tapping “x” next to them or by tapping on the 3 vertical dots at the top and selecting “Close all Tabs” to close all at once.
  4. Clear the browser cache.

Once the above step is done, say goodbye to the “Samsung can’t have more than 99 tabs open” notice.

However, if you don’t want to close all Tabs, you can simply exit one or two and clear your browser cache.

How do I close 99 tabs on my Chrome Browser?

The steps to fix the trouble on Chrome are almost similar, but their interface has a little difference.

Here’s how to go about it.

  1. Open your Chrome browser.
  2. Tap on Switch tabs. This can be done by tapping on the box at the right side of the address bar, and it’ll basically display all open tabs for easy switching.
  3. Tap on more. You can see more options by tapping the 3 vertical dots on the right side of the open tabs.
  4. Select Close all Tabs. This will close all open tabs on your Chrome, although you can manually remove them by tapping the “x” on every tab.
  5. Clear your cache.

That’s it.

You should now be able to use your browser without limitations on the number of tabs you can leave open. However, ensure it doesn’t get to 99 again.

How to Clear Browser Cache on Samsung

Clearing a browser's cache is as simple as ABC on a Samsung device. There are two methods to achieve this but I’ll discuss just one general method.

  • Open the settings app.
  • Go to Apps.
  • Select your browser e.g. Samsung browser, chrome, Firefox, Kiwi, Phoenix, etc. from the list.
  • Click on Storage.
  • Tap on Clear Cache. This action will fetch a current version of everything on your browser.

You can also decide to Clear the browser’s data if the problem still persists but I’m certain it will resolve the problem.

Alternatively, you can resort to lightweight browsers that allow you to open multiple tabs especially if you’re using an old device, e.g. puffin.

What does it mean when it says Cannot have more than 99 tabs open?

It means that you’ve opened the maximum number of tabs that can be opened at a time and you can’t open more tabs until you close existing ones. This implies that the browser opens a new tab but it closes the oldest tab on the queue in exchange. The tab limits may vary from browser to browser.
